Five People Injured In Two Car Crash In Brightwaters

When it comes to fatal car crashes, head-on collisions make up roughly 18% of all car accidents that cause a fatality. Another interesting statistic is that head-on collisions are more likely to occur in a rural rather than an urban area. 75% of all head-on collisions take place on rural roadways.

A failed passing maneuver is one of the leading causes of fatal head-on accidents in rural areas. Falling asleep while driving is another leading cause of head-on crashes. Driving under the influence and distracted driving are other leading causes of head-on crashes. Finally, road conditions and drivers who lose control of their vehicle make up another factor of head-on collisions.

The Bayshore Patch reports that five people were injured after a two-vehicle crash in Brightwaters.

The crash occurred on Sunday, June 29th at about 6:15 p.m. on Montauk Highway. According to Suffolk Police, 21-year-old Anthony Nunns was driving a 2006 Hyundai westbound near South Bay Avenue.

For unknown reasons, Nunns veered into oncoming traffic, where he struck a Dodge Ram traveling eastbound.

22-year-old Nicolina Papachristadoulou, a front seat passenger in the Hyundai, suffered from serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

Nunns and a man in the backseat suffered from minor injuries. The driver and the passenger of the other vehicle also suffered from minor injuries and were transported to another hospital.

Both vehicles were impounded to undergo safety checks.
