While the instinct to fight or fly when faced with a frightening situation can seem overwhelming, fleeing the scene after hitting a person with a motor vehicle is nothing less than an act of cowardice. The law is clear: If someone gets into an accident that results in someone getting hurt, they are required to remain at the scene until law enforcement releases them.
The Carmel Hamlet Hub reports that over the weekend, an arrest was made in connection to a hit-and-run crash on Friday, June 25, 2021, that left a 61-year-old Carmel man dead.
Officers with the Carmel Police Department, deputies from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, and their accident reconstruction teams were able to determine the suspect’s identity and make an arrest.

According to a statement released by officials, the fatal crash happened on Route 6N on Friday evening when the male victim approached his vehicle that was parked in front of his residence located North of South Lake Boulevard. A westbound driver in a gray Jeep Cherokee struck and killed him. Investigators say that the driver did not stop or render assistance to the victim.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene, and paramedics attempted to take the victim to an area hospital for treatment. He reportedly died en route to the hospital as the result of injuries he sustained in the crash.
Carmel authorities declined to release the name of the suspect at the time of the report.
