A Woman Was Injured In A Head-On Collision Off Nicholls Road

Head-on crashes are thankfully rare, making up about 2% of all auto crashes in the United States. However, head-on crashes most often occur at high speeds on highways and interstates. They also more commonly take place in rural rather than urban areas. There are many factors that can cause a head-on crash, but some factors are more common than others.

Distracted driving, drowsy driving, and driving while intoxicated are three major reasons behind head-on crashes. Another common cause of head-on collisions is improper passing, such as when a driver crosses the center line to pass another vehicle and into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

The West Hampton-Hampton Bays Patch reports that a woman from Hampton Bays has been seriously injured in a crash.

The crash occurred last Tuesday morning at about 9:25 a.m. at Nicholls Road and Middle County Road.

21-year-old Mireya Siguenzazhinin was driving northbound in a 2007 Subaru. She crossed over the center median and struck the rear of a truck that was hauling a trailer.

Siguenzazhinin was given aid by a good Samaritan before first responders arrived. Her injuries were serious, and she was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment. The driver of the truck was not injured.

The trailer was inspected at the scene by the motor carrier safety section. The Subaru was impounded for a safety check.

The crash remains under investigation.
